Duplex Ultrasound
Duplex ultrasound is a modern imaging method that combines structural (B-mode) sonography and Doppler examination. This allows simultaneous visualization of vessel shape, wall condition, and evaluation of blood flow quality, speed, and direction.
What does duplex show?
∙ Vessel patency and the degree of narrowing
∙ Presence of atherosclerotic plaques or blood clots
∙ Function of venous valves
∙ Consequences of trauma or inflammation
∙ Causes of blood flow disorders
When is it recommended?
∙ Heaviness, pain, or swelling in the limbs
∙ Varicose veins or venous insufficiency
∙ Numbness or cold sensation in hands/feet
∙ Dizziness or temporary visual disturbances
∙ High blood pressure or suspected cerebral circulation disorders
∙ Preventive screening for cardiovascular diseases
∙ Dynamic monitoring of treatment results
Which vessels can be examined?
∙ Carotid arteries
∙ Arteries and veins of the upper and lower limbs
∙ Vertebral and cerebral circulation
∙ Major abdominal vessels (as prescribed)
Advantages:
∙ Safe and radiation-free
∙ Painless and highly informative
∙ Duration: approximately 20–30 minutes
∙ Suitable for regular monitoring
